Who needs this training?

Anyone who directly cares or supports people living with cognitive impairments or a dementia.

Why is this training required?

This training is described by the Jersey Care Commission (JSS) in their care standards as a statutory and mandatory training requirement for staff working within the care industry.

Learning Outcomes

• • Demonstrate an understanding of the types of dementia and how these differ in terms of symptoms, progression, and challenges.
  • Recognise the needs that are communicated via the behaviour of people living with dementia and be able to respond appropriately to distressed behaviour.
  • Recognise the needs of family carers and friends and enable an appreciative and collaborative relationship.
  • Understand the principles of person-centred care and know how to meet the needs of people with dementia.
