Display Screen Equipment Assessor

With more and more people working with computers, either office or home based, for a greater part of their working lives, the risks from badly designed workstations or simply sitting badly can have long term health issues and impact on productivity. This training is aimed to help persons given the responsibility of assessing the risks computer users are exposed to and providing sensible advice based on government advice and good practice covering information from the Jersey DSE code of practice and UK regulations.

Who needs this training?

Any person given the responsibility of assessing risks users are exposed to at computer workstations.  This training is designed to provide assessors with the knowledge and practical actions they need to take when assessing the risks faced by their colleagues using computers.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the main requirements of relevant legislation as they relate to display screen equipment use.
  • Describe the possible harmful effects to the eyes, musculoskeletal system, skin, nervous system, and psychological wellbeing of people that may be caused by the use of DSE.
  • Carry out risk assessments, identify techniques for reducing risk and make recommendations for corrective action to minimise harm that may be caused to DSE users and operators.
  • Appreciate how DSE assessment is an integral part of overall health and safety management in an organisation.
