Health & Safety Foundations Training

Who needs this training?

Anyone who may be at risk from exposure to asbestos, manual handling and /or working at height. The training does not cover the specialised skills required to carry out specific tasks, these must be dealt with by other training.

 

Why is this training required?

Employers have a duty to assess the risk of workplaces and provide information, instruction, and training, and to eliminate or minimise those risks. This course provides individuals with essential knowledge and skills to work safely in their workplace combining these three aspects of health and safety and comply with the requirements of the local health and safety legislation.

 

Learning Outcomes

Asbestos – Properties of asbestos and its effects on health; common uses and likely occurrence in buildings, Jersey prosecutions involving exposure identify where the companies failed under the law. How to avoid the risks from asbestos and procedures to deal with an emergency in event of a disturbance.

Manual Handling – Understand what manual handling is, what individuals and companies’ duties are under the law, identify the consequences of poor manual handling, know the function of the back, conditions that can affect the back and how to lift safely.

Working at Height – Understand what is working at height, why it is important, recognise the implications of falls from height to businesses and individuals, learn the hierarchy of working at height and select the correct equipment for the task in hand and specify the issues in the correct use of equipment.
